 The Final Project: 

INSTRUCTIONS: 

You will prepare to make a ten-minute, career presentation to our Career Planning class using PowerPoint software.

The presentation should include the following slides:

 Foundation Slides:

  • Slide 1 - Title and your personal information.
  • Slide 2 - Your academic foundation.
  • Slide 3 - Your enrichment foundation.
  • Slide 4 - Activities you have completed or plan to complete which will assist you in your career choice.
  • Slide 5 - Summary of how strong your foundation is for your potential career.

Who Am I Slides:

  • Slides 6 - 9 Share your findings from the ten self-assessment activities you have completed.
  • Slide 10 - Summarize how you match the particular career you have chosen to explore.

Exploring Careers Slides:

  • Slides 11 - 14 summarize your career choice.  Include daily tasks, skills needed, typical day.  You may also include related job titles.
  • Slide 15 summarize your shadowing experience.  Who did you shadow? Where, when, what?
  • Slide 16 summarize your e-mentoring experience with the alumnus.

Further Education Slides:

  • Slide 17 describe the educational route you need to take for this career.  Include the courses and training involved in the program.  
  • Slide 18 - Describe what you can do with this major (or training).  What job titles and/or industries would you be preparing yourself for.
  • Slide 19 - describe your college connection experience with a professor.
  • Slide 20 - If you choose not to pursue your further education through college but you choose the armed services, technical schools or a labor union; describe one of those programs.

Who Will Hire Me Slides:

  • Slide 21- Describe the industry you have chosen to work in.
  • Slide 22- Identify three LI corporations you would like to work for.
  • Slide 23 - Which database can you find job opportunities for this particular career field.
  • Slide 24 - Outline the salary this career demands.  Include beginning, middle and high figures.
  • Slide 25 - Identify which professional association would be good for you to become a member.  What benefits do they provide to their members.

In addition to the above presentation, you are also required to submit your latest, updated resume based upon the new format, and

You will submit your completed Career Plan Template for all five units.

PowerPoint Rules and Etiquette:

  1. Your 10 minute presentation should be approximately 25 - 35 slides.

  2. You will use no more than two different font types (styles) in all of your slides.

  3. You will use no less than a 24 point size in all of your slides.

  4. You are allowed to use music or moving graphics to a bare minimum.

  5. You will have no more than 175 alphabetic or numeric characters on one slide.  Use two slides if you need to cover your material.

  6. You will utilize one slide theme throughout your presentation.

  7. When making your class presentation, you will hold in your hand a print-out of your presentation so that you will be facing the audience and not the screen as you discuss your points.  (Print 6 slides, black/white, per page).
