Career planning is a journey. It is not an
answer you get after taking an interest test. It is not a job you find in the newspapers.
Rather it is a life long process filled with exciting activities which best prepare you to
make decisions that will affect your life style, the home you live in, the entertainment
you choose and the clothes you wear.Career planning is similar to a car trip to a final
destination. Before you begin any trip, the traveler would:
- Add gas to the car.
- Check the tires and fluids.
- Map out the route you will be traveling.
- Determine the rest stops and sights to see along the way.
Your trip may run into detours, potholes, breakdowns and other unexpected experiences.
Your career planning can also take some unexpected turns, which could revise your
destination. A good traveler should prepare himself for these events.
Your career planning process should begin in the ninth grade. Your final destination,
as all others, is full time employment. in a successful career. Your first four years will
take your from ninth grade to high school graduation. You will need to stop several times
along your route at the following places:
Gas your car up here. At McCOURSES
you will add as many courses to your daily schedule as possible. In addition to the basics
of English, math, science and social studies, make sure you take courses that will
increase your career awareness which will help you make decisions.
At CLUB HUT you
will add to your lifes schedule a mixture of clubs, sports, music, art, drama,
community activities. These activities will train you to get along with people and develop
leadership skills.
 CAREER KING is the
stop along your route to conduct self-assessment and make a few career decisions.
JOB BELL will introduce
you to the real world of working. At Job Bell you will take advantage of internships,
shadowing and paid work experiences that will bring you closer to your final destination.
Upon high school graduation your career plan does not end. You now begin to make
choices among full time employment, 2 or 4 year college or the military. Again, along your
journey you will need to stop at our friendly stops.
