What should your child know about his/her interests?
By grade 5, your child should be able to:
  • Analyze career titles by applying the  "People, Data, Things," concept.  Your child should be able to identify a career title and then ask an individual who is closely related to that position, how much time does he/she spend each day working on tasks related to "People, Data, Things, or Ideas."
  • Identify careers in the family community.
 
By grade 8, your child should be aware of his/her:

With these bench marks plus the "People, Data, Things, Ideas", your child should be able to:

  • Choose appropriate high school courses.
  • Choose "shadowing" opportunities.

 

 
By grade 11, your child should be aware of his/her:

With these bench marks, along with the others, your child should be able to:

  • Choose an appropriate plan for post-secondary education and training. 
  • Experience shadowing, mentoring, and internship experiences related to his/her post-secondary plans.
  • Choose appropriate out-of-classroom activities such as clubs, sports, hobbies, which help to validate career choices.
 
By age 20, your child should feel confident that he/she is on the right career track towards one or two career options.  Your child should validate the previous inventory results by completing:
  • Strong Interest Inventory Instrument
  • Myers-Briggs Personality Type Instrument.
  • Careers, corporations and industries nationwide.

With these bench marks, along with the others, your child should be able to:

  • Experience shadowing, mentoring, and internship experiences related to his/her final career destination.
  • Choose appropriate out-of-classroom activities such as research projects, clubs, sports, hobbies, which help to validate career choices.

 

 
By age 23, your child should feel confident that he/she has chosen the correct career track for:
  • Full time employment or
  • Graduate education

Your child should be able to identify global careers and corporations.
